Commitment Level
How Bad Do You Want It?
An unwavering Commitment Level is one trait that is always present in anyone who has enjoyed success in their life. It's obvious when you look at them that they love what they are doing!
Real Estate Investing is no different. I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. This endeavor you've undertaken can be frustrating, annoying, frightening, even disappointing at times. You will have setbacks, mishaps, and people will let you down time and time again.
If you don't go into this with a strong commitment level and your eyes wide open about some of the pitfalls of real estate investing, then you will probably quit after your first deal.
Now don't get me wrong. There are a lot of precautions you can take to make the bad times a whole lot less than the good ones, many of which you will learn right on this site. Many of the exercises I'm suggesting you undertake are intentionally suggested so that you will have a better experience than most.
But life happens. Things out of your control happen. Unplanned for circumstances develop. How will you deal with those if you go into this business half-heartedly, or only for the money? My experience is unless you absolutely have a strong passion or desire for real estate investing, then this business may not be for you.
I've been involved in real estate one way or the other for the last ten years, and there are days when I want to throw in the towel. But I've learned a few tricks that keep me grounded and prevent me from going crazy:
•It’s not a question of if you will make a big mistake, but a question of when. Accept at some point in your real estate investing career you will make an error that will prove to be very costly to you or your partners. All you can do is learn from it and try never to let it happen again. •Do your Due Diligence on every single deal to make sure that if something goes sideways, the chances are it was an event that you couldn’t have predicted or prevented had you wanted to. •Realize that you can only control so much. Other people’s ignorance or lack of follow through will ruin your day if you let it. Try to give people the room to perform on the things they say they will, but if for any reason they don’t, do not hesitate to remove them from your team, handle the situation yourself, or hire someone else who can. Keeping dead weight around will only drag you down. •Listen to your GUT! If it’s telling you not to do something, don’t! Mine has never been wrong. If you don’t trust your gut, learn to – it will save you thousands of dollars. •Remember, when everything seems to be going wrong, give it a day or two to work out. It’s amazing to me the things that seemed like an insurmountable problem a couple of days ago, with time, actually managed to work themselves out.
By practicing some of these tips, you will keep a positive outlook and your commitment level will remain strong!
